A Zero Waste Society- Could it work?

There has been many attempts by individuals to create a zero waste lifestyle, and successfully maintain it. They believe in leaving leaving no trace or "footprint" of their waste. The world (especially America ) has it's economy centered around production and spending. More gets thrown away in our society than gets consumed. Our manufacturing process creates waste, as well as everything we buy. Consider all the packaging, all the plastic, all the unnecessary waste we pile up everyday. Our global economy would have to change for us to change.

The more the world grows and expands, so does it waste. All the food that gets thrown away instead of donated is alo a crime. Every action and has a reaction. By throwing away all that food they are contributing to an empty society.

Small ways to not contribute to the waste:
  • Eat and cook with more fresh veggies and use a compost pile for the rest
  • Grow your own food
  • Use Cloth bags instead of paper (You just have to remember to take them with you )
  • Shop garage sales or resales stores
  • Recycle (even if you feel it does not do anything to change anything)
It is possible to live like this, but I have not even tried to do it because my life is also engrained with consuming. It does take effort and it does take discipline. I'm not sure I can ever be a freegan, but I respect and admire their drive to not add to the problem. I don't think the world has another choice. I don't burial mounds of trash to be our legacy.
